We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Of course, that's the most quoted part of the Declaration. But equally important are the words that follow:

Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

We are the government, baby -- as revolutionary an idea todaty as it was then.
