Rivera Gets Physical, Allegedly

There have been many conversations in local political circles related to an incident in which Niagara County Democratic Committee Chairman Dan Rivera allegedly placed his hands on the committee Vice-Chair, prompting a letter from the Vice-Chair. Niagara Times has received a copy of the letter from a member of the NCDC, and it follows in it's entirety.

For the record, there is some language in the letter which is not for the faint of heart. Click on the letter to read it in full size.

UPDATE: In response to a concern raised by one of the individuals involved in this controversy, the signature of that individual has been removed from the post.

"Physical and verbal assault?" Wow. This could be the end of the road for Danny Boy.

Hobbes, you are amazing for getting your hands on that letter. We all know this kind of stuff goes on behind the scenes, but thank you for giving us regular folk a picture into how ugly backroom politics can be.

Wow, this is front page news right here! The dems are in disarray! Just another reason why the republicans are the party of the future in Niagara County and Western New York.

Time for conservative tax cutting and government consolidating efforts to really take off and really start to help save this state, beginning with Niagara County! Rivera like the rest of the dems in NYS are just in it for themselves...free the state!

as far are I';m concerned, that's the truth. Who would make up a story about someone grabbing their nose, twice, as a way to resign from vice chair of a committee? the dems just can't get things right. republicans have them scrambling. How can they win elections without being able to communicate amongst themselves?

The mother f-ing is horrible, but the nose-tweaking is downright bizarre- especially a man doing it to woman - very derogatory or something....

It all comes down to strategy. The Republicans have decided to stake their majority and incumbency on results. The Democrats have decided that their platform will be based on antagonism, criticism and juvenile name calling. When the layers get peeled away, the Dems are left with nothing more than an ignorant, self-serving piece of crap for a leader. I am embarrassed for the Democrats in this county.

As a Dem, I think you guys are nuts that the Republicans are the party of the future. Your days are numbered...and quite frankly, you've earned for you bungling when you controlled all three branches nationally. In the state, natural demographics will relegate you to deep minority status.

Now, having said that, I'm totally disgusted with our chairman. Here, we have everything going our way for huge victories in upcoming elections and he hands the GOP a ready-made issue. It's time for him to go.

This type of altercation from Rivera is AMAZING to say the least, coming from someone who is supposed to represent the best interest of NC citizens, particularly democrats. However, does this development really AMAZE anyone coming from Chairman Rivera? I'm just surprised he hasn't deliberately disrespected someone in this manner sooner. Or maybe it just hasn't gotten public as this incident has. To Ms. Roberts, you're clearly doing the right thing by resigning from Team Rivera and publically displaying his disrespect and vulgarity, and I applaude that. To Dan, well, shame on you, and I can only hope that you're somehow smart enough to send in your own resignation letter next.

Ooooh, all the Republicans finally find their morals. You guys are such hypocrites when you're not in a bathroom stall tapping your foot on the floor.

If we didn't have idiots like Rivera running our party, you guys would be finished.

Bill Ross used to beat kids asses all the time, whats wrong with that?

Precicely why I am, and always will be, an independant. I suppose that it's good that this stuff comes out to remind me why I would ask for unnecessary trouble by running for any office and take orders from these dolts.

Good for Diane for having the guts to resign from the position. As a female involved in politics in the area, I find Dan's actions atrocious. No mater what party this is coming from it should not be accepted, and he should go. And tweaking a nose? That is something that you do to a little child to play the got your nose game. I highly doubt a vice-chair is a child, esp. not one that has to deal with his lack of maturity. Grow up Dan!

Big Daddy said...

Considering so many female groups are part of the Democrat base, where are they on this issue? Do they condone Rivera's actions. If this were the GOP, people would be calling for the chairman's head.

I can't wait for Dan's video response to this - come on guy try to explain this away.

Judging from his photo – I can see why he is a nose guy, I think he may have a fetish.

We should all head out to Lewiston, I guess their a big Niagara Dem party at the Casa Antica Restaurant - 6PM for Congresswoman Slaughter. Maybe Dan will grab here to - might be good YouTub stuff.

Mmm, tapping your foot is immoral? That sounds like a dem's way of expressing his 'sexual preference', that can't be immoral!

Rivera is pitiful and to think that he is leading the dems in N.C.! Well, ya get what ya ask for.

Slaughter graces her district with her presence when money is needed. What a gal.

I'm glad Dan taught her a thing or two about who is in charge of the party. See dissed him and got what she deserved.

You think it's easy getting you're five members of the legislature to act in unison? Think it's easy to recruit top-tier candidates like Don Hobel for office? Think it's easy playing a shell game with camapign funds to support candidates in Buffalo and Erie County.

Diane got outta line and got what's coming to her.

The event in Lewiston today has nothing to do with Dan Rivera. I got an invite and it is a party hosted by the Lewiston Democrats, whioh wold mena it is hosted by Diane's group. So no point expecting anything from Dan Rivera

You can all joke and make fun of this, but these are some serious allegations that may or may not be true with people's reputations at risk. I really don't find this stuff funny.

Either we have a manical madman running one of our major parties in Niagara County or we have a town chairman looking to make hay out of some small incident in the hope of increasing her own status.

This is anything but funny.

Anonymous said...

I doubt the latter because if she was looking to increase her own status, she wouldnt have resigned, she would have called for Dan to do so, so she could have stepped in.

Clark Griswold said...

Exactly. It wouldn't help her any to step down from the position. Unless she is trying to play the guilt card, which somehow I reallllly doubt.

This is one of those stories that seems like it's going to become a bigger and bigger issue as each day passes until it explodes. Just wait...I bet this breaks into the mainstream media within the next day or so.

Perhaps Rivera meant it as a playful tweak on the nose? Perhaps unwanted and inappropriate if Roberts didn't appreciate the playfulness of it. Perhaps Roberts overreacted? Were the two friends before this child-like gesture and it turned into something else because of a political disagreement?

As far as the phone call goes, salty language laced telephone calls between and among party activists is not unheard of. Heated discussions are part and parcel of the genre. In politics, it is rare indeed to run into someone with Roberts sensibilities against off-color language.

Perhaps together, Roberts just felt it was too much. Granted, Rivera should apologize because Roberts has stated she was offended. But she is also quoted in todays MSM that Riivera is a good chairman. In the grand scheme of things, this amounts to nothing more than a glitch and fodder for the partisan attack Marziarz-dogs.

Seems like Ms. Roberts wrote a letter when she was "hot" over the incident which is a no no in politics. And if she never expected the letter to get out then she is a fool.

Seems to me she did Danny a favor by resigning.

That's why you’re Independent, give me a break. The Republicans control independents and Conservatives and the Democrats control Working Families. If you really want to be “Independent” join a party other than the top five. Now as far as Dan, I think people are right that if anyone besides Dan were Chairman the Democrats would have control of Niagara County. Dan only makes Henry’s job easier. I’ll make a donation to Chain and shackle Dan at the Lewiston Town Square for public humiliation.

Hobbes,

Are you secretly a Democrat committee person? How the heck did you get your hands on that letter. Inquiring minds want to know.

Hobbes: Great job of reporting what is wrong in Niagara County politics, especially with a creep like Rivera. I guess what this really should show and tell the public is how ruthless this guy is. He has dipped to the point which embarasses society. I'm teaching my 11 year old son to respect women and treat them with dignity and this punk in the publics eye is setting this fine example. Just goes to show why the elected officials in Niagara County who follow this guys lead have the attitude they show the public. Must be the same reason NT Mayor Larry Soos walked in the NT Memorial Day parade in front of the Gold Star Mothers, NO RESPECT!!!!! Next he will be telling them they have to ride on the back of the bus.

Clark Griswold said...

Anon, I don't think it was simply the language that is striking a chord with many people, it is the context in which it was used. Particularly when it involves a male speaking like that to a female, let alone the alleged unwanted physical contact, no matter how "minimal". When your in the public eye like Rivera, no matter the spectrum, it's simply unacceptable to act in that manner at any time. Let alone over a political disagreement.

It says a lot in this day and age about the state of politics. A two-time hack who was fired from his job for breeaching privay and now is accused of low-level phyicals and verbal assault can continue on as a party chairman.

Sad. Very sad.

WOW!!!!!! Another fellow Democratic party member accusing Dan of not being that good old party (GOP) person he wants everyone to actually believe. Hey Dan, don't worry it still gets dark in Niagara County so you can still get around town with the rest of the creeps. Give Hillary a call and maybe the two of you can hold a joinjt news conference announcing your joint resignations, but with the same mindset neither one of you want to step aside for the right reasons. Hey the two of you need to keep up the good work helping the real GOP (Grand Old Party) get their message out to the voters.

Some interesting news gang!!!

I heard Ms Roberts is going to lead an effort to remove Dan from his post. She and a few others are being named as possible replacements for the troubled chair.
