Friday Ruminations

With the leaking of the Diane Roberts letter, the county Ethics Board moving forward on coroner Jim Joyce, the Bob LaBarbera letter, the ruling on former Judge Bob Restaino, the FBI investigation of former Niagara Falls Mayor Vince Anello, Gary Parenti in court and the ruling in favor of Somerset Town Councilman Dan Engert, it was a very rough week for the Niagara County Dems. Can Dan Rivera survive?

When Guv Paterson announced that ESDC would no longer have an Upstate Economic Development Czar, there was concern throughout the region. With the appointment of Bob Wilmers to Chairman of ESDC, we should be giddy with joy. This guy is a WNYer through and through and founded Unshackle Upstate.

Congressman Tom Reynolds continues to be a force in politics. NYC Mayor Bloomberg is pushing Reynolds to take over the state GOP Party. Rudy Giuliani is pushing his own guy, Anthony Carbonetti. Either way, current GOP state chairman Mondello is soon-to-be history.

The end of the road for Hillary could have an impact on local races across the state.

The ongoing saga of Buffalo Bills RB "Predator" Lynch is complete garbage. Frank Clark and the Buffalo PD are looking more incompetent every day that Lynch is not brought in. And stop with the "he's not getting any special attention" bullshit. If it were you or I, we'd have already been charged with hit & run.

The aforementioned Niagara County Dem Chairman Dan Rivera has begun posting videos on their county party website. Here is Rivera's first foray into Youtube:

I watched the Rivera youtube ramblings about Harris Beach. I did NOT, however, see Dan Rivera remind his Dems that a Democratic County Legislator, who caucuses with Dan himself, who is a colleague of Dan himself, who is a friend of Dan, WORKS AT HARRIS BEACH. HIPPOcrate.
Yes, HIPPO.

I know people in the Falls say Bob Restiano is a nice guy, but he clearly got what he deserved. Too many of these friggin judges think they are above all of us. A few more like Retiano need to be brought down a peg.

Now you're just a schlub like the rest of us, Bobby.

Wilmers heading ESDC & Reynolds heading the state GOP would bring a serious amount of political clout to WNY.

"Predator" Lynch...LOLOL. He's out partying at 3:30 in the a.m. with fellow Bills? He's taking lessons from Jim Kelly. Only when he parties through the night on game day and Super Bowl Sunday will Lynch approach Kelly status.

Lynch is like burmaster with gold teeth, thinks he can get away with anything!!! and does

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the similarities between Burmaster and Lynch are unmistakable. Idiot.

Is the picture behind Riveras head crooked or is it Rivera that is crooked? I can't tell.

What this turning into a liberal propaganda web site? Next thing you know the Niagara Journal will endorse Senator McCain.

u mean mccain, the tree hugger who claims man made global warming exists? He's not too far off from the left, but he's a hell of a lot closer to the right than the socialist barak hussein obama. mccain has my vote by luck of who he's running against.

N.C. dems are toast

How is Rivera still the party chair? Even if one ignores his verbal and physical abuse toward Diane Roberts (which obviously cannot be ignored), there cannot be any rational Democratic Committee person who can say with a straight face that his tenure could even remotely be considered a success.

He turned last year's County legislative elections into a referendum on the leadership of one of the most popular, politically solidified, and powerful elected officials in Western New York. Like him or not, Senator Maziarz is a political giant, and trying to slay a giant when the job is to focus on winning seats on the County Leg is not only poor strategy, but is indicative of Rivera's belief that everything is about him.

He has consistently been outmanuevered, out funded, and out classed by Wojtaszek. What Wojtaszek understands (what Rivera will not and cannot understand) is that being the party chair is not all about him. It's about raising funds, identifying and cultivating new candidates, and mapping out electoral strategies for those candidates. You do not see Wojtaszek mugging for the cameras, and putting himself out in the media, because he understands this is the job of his candidates and elected officials. He is busy running a party.

Rivera on the other hand has made himself a spectacle, alienated potential contributors, alienated his own committee people, and lost five times the elections he's won. He's completely failed during a period when his party has had a significant registration advantage across Niagara County (Dem 51% Rep 44%).

As a registered Democrat who is extremely disheartened with how his party has performed in Niagara County, I can only hope that my party's committee people will come to their senses and throw this man out. There is absolutely no reason why we should be losing time after time. We need to stop whining about how the Republicans have operated over the last few years, and start examining why we have been so inept over the same time frame. The bottom line is that we are losing and they are winning.

One other point.

If your going to do something, do it right!! If you're going to start posting video statements on your website, put the time and resources into some level of production quality (what's with the CCR background music playing to one of the most boring and nonsensical speeches I've ever been subjected to). Also, (not to beat a dead horse) have one of your elected officials and/or candidates present the speech. It's not all about you Dan!! Time to step down.

Anon: "The bottom line is that we are losing and they are winning."

On a local level, it's not about winning and losing, its about helping the community. It's public SERVICE. Be glad that the dems aren't 'winning' or they'd be digging upstate NY into an even bigger hole than it already is with more 'solutions' like raising taxes and throwing money at the problems. Republicans should be running the state, cutting gov't jobs, lowering taxes, and turning the state around.

You and I have a different philosophy about how best to govern. That is why we belong to different political parties, who have different policy platforms. That is absolutely fine, and that ability to disagree is what makes us a Democracy.

That was not the point of my post. While I agree that an elected government official's job is to serve his/her respective community to the best of his/her ability, that does not totally fit the job description of a political party chairperson.

While that party chairperson may believe that his/her party's policy platform is the best, and therefore, serves the community best, a party chairperson's job is to win. That is the most basic and fundemental duty that they must carry out.

To go back to my original point, Rivera has not carried out that most basic and fundemental duty for the party that he serves.

You may disagree with my party's platform, but having the ability to disagree is what makes our country a democracy.

its hot out again, must be dan's fault

Dan it's called plastic surgery. You can get that thing removed. Or is it a bug or a camera or just a mole in the democratic party.
