Christy Over The Top Again

We'd like to wish Niagara County Legislator Dennis Virtuoso well. Although we do not have details, apparently Virtuoso was involved in an accident tonight that has required an examination at a local hospital. Virtuoso was scheduled to appear on LCTV's Legislative Journal this evening. Due to his accident, Virtuoso was gracious enough to contact the station and let them know he would be unable to appear. He also found a substitute guest. Unfortunately, the graciousness displayed by Virtuoso was lost on host Tom Christy.

While introducing his substitute guest Sylvia Virtuoso, Christy stated that Dennis Virtuoso told him that he would not be able to appear on the show this evening because he had "blurred vision and a foggy memory". Christy responded with, "So the doctor told you you're a Republican". Personally, I find the remark almost humorous. But once again, Christy is interjecting his personal beliefs, his personal political beliefs, into a show that was designed and created to educate the public about government. Government, not politics.

Some will say that government is politics. It's not. Having County Clerk Wayne Jagow on Legislative Journal to talk about the DMV is governmental. Having Nancy Smith on to talk about HAVA is governmental. Having Tom Christy say that Republicans have blurred vision and foggy memories is completely and unequivocally political, and goes against everything that LCTV was founded on. In LCTV's by-laws, Article 3, Section Five, it states that the purpose of the station is to "develop and cultivate the community use of cable telecommunications media in a non-discriminatory manner". A "non-discriminatory manner". Labeling Republicans with "blurred vision and foggy memories" would hardly fit with that by-law.

Once again, we have to ask - where is the LCTV Board of Directors? How can they continue to allow this type of editorializing on this channel that is a clear violation of the station's own by-laws? The Board of Directors, which according to LCTV's website includes Roberta Harper-Chair, Jackie Davis-Vice Chair, Donna Landers-Secretary, John Benoit-Treasurer, Michael Casale, Mary Brennan-Taylor, Doug Farley, Paul Foster, Debbie Gaskill, Gerard Hogan, Mike Norris, Esther Owens, Mark Sanders and Melisa Niver, are allowing their own reputations to be tarnished by the ongoing fiasco at LCTV. Is there an end in sight? We hope so as much as you do.

You hate to go over the top on one comment, but I agree that these are the cheap shots that belong on talk radio and other opinion forums and not on the government channel.

I'm getting tired to the LCTV board keeping the hand in the sand. Wake up, jackasses and do something about this.

Give me a break already. Hobbes do you even watch the entire show? He takes swipes at everybody. When a republican is on he jokes about them and democrats. And vise versa with democrats. While I agree he tends to gt alittle loud at times, he is still an entertaining host. Can you name a host of a LCTV program that is other than Christy? No you can't. That is why almost all of the their other programing on these channels is as enertaining and as informative as watchimg paint dry.

The make up of the LCTV Board of Directors looks suspicious anyway. I bet if you look into their party affilliation you will find them almost all to be republicains. Which to me, right now is just another term for " censorship" Go and spend some money and keep everyone happy. Just make it go away.

Attacks on freedom of speach is unamerican. Acts like this ruin some of the good things that the GOP Leadership have accomplished while incontrol of Niagara County.

I agree with the sentiment. If he had made the joke generic, "so the doctor said you're like every other politician" it wouldn't be so offensive.

But clearly Christy hates Republicans and takes every chance he can get to throw in a dig. People may not know that Christy is a Democrat who worked for a Democrat state legislator.

And this is supposed to be the guy who is an impartial moderator on our government channel?

What the board needs to remember is that this station is paid for by the cable subscribers in the Town and City of Lockport. Many of those people do not share Tom Christy's views. When he spews his overtly political commentary he offends many of the people who actually fund the station that provides him the forum to offend! The govt. channel is meant to inform.

PD, he never takes those kinds of shots at Democrats. He is a partisan hack who belongs on public access, not the government channel.

Christy ain't my favorite, but aren't we being a little sensitive here? It was one line.

And who the hell is even watching this show any more? Christy's antics have pretty much alienated viewers. He used to put together a show that was informative...he's more of a buffoon now.

Next topic please.

I don't agree with everything on the "government channel" either, but I'm a big boy and change the channel. Do you really believe that no one has ever had an opinion on the "government channel". I think I would get bored real quick just listening to our political leader talk about themselves for one hour. Here's another idea get the dish network then you won't get the "government channel".

Not that I should admit I ever listen to Leffler but I was caught in slow traffic today and happened on to it...and boy was he ripping you guys apart.

Leffler was shedding a tear for Christy...boo hoo. Tom wants to make a name for himself on our public airwaves so he can find himself a payin' gig. Leffler is much the same way.

Well boys, Hobbes is calling you all out and you don't like it...too bad.

I heard Leftover today, too ... and while I may think he's a blowhard, I'm fairly certain WLVL is a paying gig already ...

we get it...christy sucks so does leffler

I listen to what Leffler had to say this morning on his show. While I don`t always agree with everything Leffler has to say, I agree with him on this issue. Lets face it, this is a witch hunt. Plain and simple.
I also stated on Lefflers show that I post comments on this blog as "PROUD DEMOCRAT". But from now on I plan on using my real name. If any of you have read some of my earlier comments on this blog you can see that there are some subjects that I agree with the topic posted. So you can`t say that I`m on here to stir up trouble.

Tom is gone? Whoppeee.. He is an evil doer. Daring to speak of the Republican party in such a disparaging manner. Making like there was some kinda humor in the remark. But we all know that there is nothing funny about empty headed air-headed Republicans. I think that they're kinda sad, don't you? What with all that thinking out there that they find so distasteful, I don't blame Hobbes for pointing out that TC hit a nerve with a significant disadvantaged group like the Republicans. Haven't the Republicans suffered enough here in Niagara County? Bad TC.

If the "Government Channel" needs to follow along the lines of some of these comments, then shouldn't this blog site be called "Republican Times"?

Give this whole subject a break and show some real concern for real issues. This grows old.

What a gas it is to read about how badly you all hate-despise and so forth Tom C. and Scott L. If any of these desparate posters had one thin hair, they'd be leaving names, phone numbers and be calling in to both of the shows offered--for the true meaning of this nation, and that is discussion, discourse and resolution to very real problems. NOT personal attacks and agenda driven drivel! Give this whole policital charade a pause--for your own good. Your Party and people involved are DE-evolving.

Grow BIG with these remarks, programs, etc. OR show that you are growing old and obsolete.

Dear Anonynous.....While I agree with your statement, what you just said is great. But you kind of defeated its purpose by not giving a "real name" to your post.

Anonymous said...

Dear Rob: I know that this didn't pass you by. When I "slam" someone, I'll post my name. Point is, I didn't slam. There's a difference.

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't it be nice if we posted compliments and nicities with an annonymous signature and then, if we post hate filled or politically driven agendas, we signed our real names? What a twist that would be!

rob clark said...

I didn`t say you were slamming someone. Perhaps I din`t understand your post. Either way its still a good post. Try reading a post from Niagara Journals blog. I read it yesterday. Good stuff. Sometimes a little long. But goodstuff none the less.

Dear Rob: I have been reading the NiagaraJournal.blogspot.com and I'd have to agree with your take on the comments. Thoughful, slow and well meaning dialogue is what will help us here in Niagara County. Certainly not hammering away annonymously at every opportunity at two hosts, of the only two shows, that seem to allow ALL folks a voice. I just don't like the "p.r." campaigns aginst one person or another. THEY are NOT the problems around here.

I DO know that you get this and I DO appreciate your comments. Keep them coming--unless some of these posters start to hack away at your well intentions. That shows weakness of any argument or position as it's always about the personality and not the issue.

Which, BTW, is exactly what any of these blog-forums are supposed to be about. Issues and solutions.
That's all I'm sayin.
Have a good one.

Christy has some support on here. Good for him. But I watched the shows from Thursday, and I can't believe what a whiner Christy is. Throughout the three hours, he whined. And he whined. And he whined. Poor me. He's putting his head in his hands. He's sighing. He's crying about putrid politics. WAAAAAAAAAAA, you little girl!!!! You think it's okay to slam people week in and week out, but you don't have the sack to take it.

Anonymous said...

Why'd you watch then? Sounds like someone else is whinning now. What channel are you on Ogie?
The above post seems a lot like "putrid politics" too. 10x dirty WHAAAAA!

Anonymous said...

Lets tally here...
9 posts FOR and 7 POSTS Against--seems like "some" is just another political downplay--read spin on words.
Ooops Ogie. 60%+ = > than half.
Hmmm.

So, the LCTV Gov't channel should be relegated to CNet status? I think the better question is do they need 3 channels to fill with dead air? It's not like they are preempting anything. Who cares.

ASO....are you political hacks happy now that Tom Christy's show has been pulled? LESS Free Speech for ALL? Nice job--not.

This site sickens me!!

I find it further interesting that the very topic of this thread starter--that of Christy's comment regarding Dennis Virtuoso, was followed by a virtuoso of Dennis being on the WLVL 1340AM radio call-in Dialog program (Thursday, March 13, 2008) as one of the FIRST SUPPORTERS of Mr. Christy's show!

Now that's pretty funny (and telling about this site's "outrage")in the context of the umbridge taken by Hobbes the Hack, along with the fact that Dennis V. has offered to submit a resolution on Tom Christy's behalf to the legislature.

WHAT A JOKE THIS SITE IS (another example of Niagara County politics at their lowest) and just how FULL of political chicanery and feces.

How VERY SAD for ALL of US Niagara County residents!!
